VOX POPULI: You’ve gotta love a guy who pledges to play only music from the 1960s in his new toy.

Denver’s Kevin Ryan and Brian Brock have purchased the Voxmobile, which resembles a Vox Phantom guitar in silhouette — and you may start seeing it around town at parades, guitar and car shows, and fundraisers.

It cost $30,000 to build the car in 1968, and it’s had an interesting life: It had a part in the 1968 movie “Psych-Out,” starring Jack Nicholson; was in a “Beverly Hillbillies” episode, in “Where the Action Is” and “Groovy.”

Ryan, who’s founder and lead guitarist with The Nacho Men, and who runs a business dealing with vintage cars and guitars, said he and Brock tried to buy the car for 10 years from the estate of its last owner before the sale finally happened.

Ryan has created a character named Voxy, who wears a vest and — yes —bell-bottom pants created from grill cloth taken from Vox amplifiers.

George Barris, who created the Batmobile and Munstermobile, dreamed up this car, too. The Voxmobile can accommodate four musicians and has a Vox Super Continental organ mounted in the rear, hidden speakers and a Muntz eight-track tape player — which Ryan found on eBay — to play ’60s tunes if there’s no band.
