DENVER - With gas prices dropping, more custom car collectors are getting the courage to start taking those fancy rides out of mothballs, and that includes one that rolls down the highway to a very distinctive 60's beat.

The Voxmobile was designed by the same artist who created the legendary cars for the 60's tv shows Batman and The Munsters. While this car isn't as well known as the Batmobile and Munstermobile, it is just as wacky.

The car gets its name from the Vox company, which made legendary guitars and amps back in the day. Besides a souped-up Cobra engine, the Voxmobile comes complete with an organ on the back and 32-plug ins for electric guitars.

Co-owner Kevin "Voxy" Ryan said it was made in 1968. Over the years it has switched owners, and it took quite a bit of convincing (and cash) to finally acquire it. But Ryan, who happens to be a member of the Denver music group The Nacho Men, says it was worth every penny. "It's the ultimate car for a music lover and a car lover. This thing has everything that is cool about the 60's; great music, peace, love... and fast cars," Ryan says.

Back in 1968 the Voxmobile cost $30,000 to make. If you were to try to build it today, Ryan says it would easily cross into the $200,000 range.

A custom car that plays 60s music on a unique system. 9 News 7 am 10/27/08
